Social Housing

Local Authorities and Housing Associations often have very specific issues when purchasing or developing land for social housing.   The sites can often be on brownfield which brings its own set of problems with the diversion and/or disconnection of existing utility mains, services, metering & other apparatus.

UIC can offer a bespoke service to LAs and HAs dependent on requirements.

This includes:

  • Obtaining existing utility asset records.
  • GPR scans to assess the exact location and depth utility mains and services are located.
  • Provide simple ‘traffic light’ reports to highlight what diversions or disconnections are required.
  • Manage the removal of existing gas and electric metering in conjunction with energy suppliers on buildings about to be demolished.
  • Obtaining utility diversion and disconnection quotations from statutory asset owners.
  • Project manage any required utility diversions and disconnections.
  • Ensure the provision of ‘as-laids’ and certificates confirming diversions and disconnections prior to buildings being demolished.
  • Advice on electric loadings, landlord supplies, mains, services and meter locations when designing new housing or apartment schemes.
  • Obtain budget and/or fixed quotations for new gas, water, electric & telecoms infrastructure required to feed new developments.
  • Full project management of the installation of new utility infrastructure – including metering and processing of ‘Handover’ information to energy suppliers.

Contesting Utility Infrastructure Costs

Developers often find themselves unknowingly over-charged for utility infrastructure. Many also fail to challenge utility providers for completed non-contestable and contestable works carried out on diversions, disconnections or new connections despite having the right to do so.

Residential Developments

Utility Infrastructure Consulting can offer a full end-to-end service, tailored to the developer or construction company requirements. We deal with utilities starting from the pre-acquisition stages of the development opportunity through to providing design advice, competitive tendering for utility infrastructure and finally the management of the installation of the pipes, cables and metering.
